Soldier's Backpack

A soldier’s backpack is an ultimate survival kit that helps those servicepersons during challenging circumstances. Without a backpack, surviving in the toughest of environments becomes an unachievable feat.

A modern backpack is an advanced form of a bag that soldiers had been using decades ago to carry firearms. Before the advent of rifles, backpacks had a limited capacity. The reason for it is that the items required for soldiers’ comfort were carried by wagons that followed them wherever they had to move.

With a firearm becoming a more important item for a soldier to carry, backpack makers had to increase the capacity of new bags to allow soldiers to keep their weapons and firearms protected during harsh environments.

With rails, trucks, and other means of transportation replacing wagons, it became necessary for a soldier to carry more items in their backpacks. It is another reason that backpacks grew in size.

Essential items that soldiers carry in their backpacks

Modern backpacks allow soldiers to carry all the essential items they need during training or missions. Those items include the following.

  • Hydration: A place for hydration bladder in the backpack allows the soldier to drink water while on the move. Soldiers fill these bladders before setting off for missions. It can be refilled when necessary.
  • First aid kit: Minor and moderate wounds and injuries are not uncommon during training and missions. The first aid kit that soldiers carry is more comprehensive than what you would find in drugstores. This kit is also capable of stabilizing severe injuries before the soldier reaches the medical facility for proper treatment. This first aid kit allows the soldier to push on with minor injuries until the mission is finished.
  • Food: Soldiers out there on a mission or training session have to remain energized, so they must pay attention to their calorie intake. They usually take power bars, which are lightweight with a lot of calories. Some foods come with self-heating elements, so it is not required to build a fire to heat those foods. Other food items may include peanut butter, cookies, and nutritional shakes.
  • Gun cleaning kit: The utmost necessity for a soldier to ensure his survival during combat is to make sure that his weapons remain functional. That is why the backpack a soldier has to carry should include the gun cleaning kit.

Personal items

Personal items help a soldier to steer clear of boredom during combat or training endeavors. There is no rule regarding which personal items a soldier can carry in his backpack. It is, however, for him to avoid putting a bulk in the bag.

Assault pack

An assault pack is a smaller backpack that can assist a soldier during quick-strike missions. These bags can store items that may last 24 to 48 hours, depending on the mission. The food and water kit in this bag may last up to three days.

All these bags are durable enough to ensure harsh conditions. A soldier has to walk through different terrains and flooded areas. The ability of the backpack to remain safe from hostile conditions may mean the difference between life and death for those men with arms.
